A few days ago in a parking lot in Lisbon wheelchair users and volunteers occupied all the available Non-Handicap spaces to make a point to able-bodied motorists what it is like to have “their” parking places unavailable to them.
On every wheelchair various notes were left like: "be right back", "it only takes a moment", "I’m get something here", etc.

Reblogged this yesterday from a different source, but I think this photograph is more powerful.
I love this so much I’ll reblog it a million times!
I get a less talked about response from people when I park in a disabled bay. I am registered disabled, I have a blue badge (which is stuck to my dashboard for all to see) but because I don’t look disabled, I get filthy looks from able-bodied people. I’ve even had people come up to me by the car and have a go at me for parking in disabled bays.
Just because someone doesn’t look disabled, doesn’t look like they have difficulty, doesn’t look like they are in pain, doesn’t mean they aren’t.
I hear you. My sister has had a blood disorder her whole life, leukemia which destroyed both her hips and double hip replacements. Because she is in her mid twenties people judge her all the time for parking in the disabled spots even with her disability card in the window.

“Hm. Must be writers.”
Me: ”That’s Terri Miller and Andrew Marlowe!”
Me: “The creator of Castle and his wife!”
Family: “… “
Me: “It’s a Hitchcock style cameo!”
Family: ” … “
Me: “Because the episode is based off a Hitchcock film … “
Family: “… “
Me: “… Look Castle is being funny.”

if this doesn’t become a famous text post, i think i’d go insane…
Death has become a joke in American society.
When Amy Winehouse died, everyone was singing
“if only she had gone to rehab,
she wouldn’t have died,
but she said no no no.”
Not even hours after Whitney Houston was pronounced dead,
everyone was laughing over the joke,
“I guess she will always be Waiting to Exhale”
and people were crippled with laughter over the thousands of MIchael Jackson jokes before his body had even grown cold.
But death is not a joke around the dinner table
or something to make light of.
“she should just go and kill herself already”
is not a phrase that should be uttered in the high school hallways.
death is “Car Wreck Kills Mother of Three” tragic
death is “Drug Overdose Takes Brother and Husband Too Soon” monstrous
death is “Only Son Killed Overseas” Disastrous
death is “Suicide Causes Whole School to Mourn” sickening
death is not yours to take and manipulate for a laugh
death is final
death is terrifying
death is dreadful
death takes and takes and takes
but death never laughs
and death never jokes
